A Dialogue on Stigma: Psychological and Educational Perspectives
The Translation Department held a workshop entitled “The Importance of Learning English”. The keynote speakers at the workshop were Asst. lecturer Bahra Jalal Taher from Cihan University and Lecturer Zimkitha Mpatheni from the American University of Iraq. The speakers in this workshop focused on the importance of languages, and English in particular. The first speaker explained all the benefits of learning English and the second speaker explained her experiences with the language. Learning another language helps in finding jobs and improves brain power. If you speak another language, you can travel easily. You understand other cultures and can improve memory. Learning a new language can stop dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. One can make new contacts by learning a new language. It connects you to where the people are, the things you care about, and the things you want to know about. The more language you speak the greater chances you have, learning another language can open doors that would otherwise stay closed.
