One of the founding departments of Cihan University – Sulaimaniya in 2011, the English department is the cornerstone of the humanities at the university. The department provides undergraduates with opportunity to acquire fundamental writing skills, to learn about the powers of argument and analysis, and to see the big picture of literature’s development from the Middle Ages to the present.  The department’s concern is providing students with the necessary linguistics knowledge needed for a better performance in English language.

In fact, a large number of students will be engaged with an ongoing conversation about how and why we read and write, what it means to think creatively, critically, and analytically about texts, and what it means to examine the world through a multitude of diverse perspectives. Such skills and proficiencies will largely enable students to have a better career and profession when they graduate after fulfilling the requirements which are needed to get the bachelor degree in English language and literature.
