About the Department

Established in 2014, the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University – Sulaimaniya is a leading academic unit offering a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Science program in Architectural Engineering. The curriculum bridges theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice across architectural, urban, interior, and landscape design.

Driven by a commitment to educational excellence, the department continuously modernizes its curriculum and faculty expertise. Students learn within state-of-the-art design studios, creative ateliers, and technology-enabled classrooms designed to foster intellectual curiosity, innovation, and scholarly research.

Our Vision: To cultivate a distinct professional identity for our graduates, empowering them to become innovative specialists and leaders in Architectural Engineering. We provide a robust academic foundation that prepares students for both immediate industry impact and advanced postgraduate studies in diverse architectural disciplines.

Program Outcomes

The Architecture program equips students to design resilient, functional, and aesthetically compelling built environments. By integrating structural engineering principles, sustainable design strategies, and advanced digital workflows—including Computer-Aided Design (CAD), AI in architecture, and prompt engineering—the curriculum bridges creative vision with technical execution. Graduates emerge as collaborative design professionals prepared to lead and innovate within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):

  1. Engineering Integration: Apply mathematical, scientific, and engineering fundamentals to resolve complex spatial and architectural design challenges.
  2. Comprehensive Building Design: Synthesize functional, physical, and environmental requirements into safe, responsive, and holistic architectural designs.
  3. Structures & Materials: Evaluate and apply principles of structural systems, material science, and construction technologies to architectural proposals.
  4. Digital Tools & AI Prompt Engineering: Leverage Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and AI in architecture—including prompt engineering and generative workflows—for concept generation, design exploration, spatial visualization, and technical documentation.
  5. Codes & Regulatory Compliance: Apply local and international building codes, life-safety standards, accessibility regulations, and legal frameworks to design practice.
  6. Sustainable Design: Integrate passive strategies, active environmental systems, and ecological sustainability principles throughout the design process.
  7. Design Communication: Persuasively convey architectural ideas, technical details, and design intent through digital renderings, technical drawings, physical models, and oral presentations.
  8. Aesthetic Judgment & Creativity: Demonstrate critical aesthetic judgment, contextual awareness, and creative innovation in spatial problem-solving.
  9. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate and communicate effectively within interdisciplinary project teams across design, engineering, and construction disciplines.
  10. Ethics & Professional Practice: Exhibit professional ethics, civic responsibility, and standard legal and business practices in architectural work.
