
On the 15th of April, 2023, the Department of Law organized a seminar on ‘The judicial ruling between induction and deduction’, the seminar was presented by, the President of the Garmyan Court of Appeal, Justice, Dr. Awat Omer Haji. Dr. Awat Omer Haji stated that logic is an essential component of every field, from mathematics and computer science to philosophy and law, and that logic has three connotations. Namely, connotations are divided into three areas which are verbal connotation, neutral connotation, and mental inference.
Verbal connotation, means the meanings of words, whether in the direct, explicit, implicit, or correlative sense. By neutral connotation, it means knowing something through its natural connotations, for example, the presence of smoke indicates the existence of fire. As for mental inference, it means knowing things using the mind through understanding and analysis using the methodologies of induction and deduction.
Whereas, by induction, what is meant is knowledge of things through knowledge of their parts, while what is meant by deduction is knowledge of things through general rules and then applying them to partial facts. Subsequently, the judge listens to the two parties to the case through pleading or trial and then evaluates
