The Department of Accounting at Cihan University-Sulaimaniya successfully hosted a National Workshop titled “Profitability in Iraq’s Banking Industry” on January 29, 2025. The workshop was a collaborative effort between Cihan University Sulaimaniya and Polytechnic University of Sulaimaniya.
The workshop was presented by:
1. Prof. Dr. Hatem Hatef Abdulkadhim
2. Lecturer Hakar Abubakir Bayz
This workshop provided valuable insights into the profitability dynamics of Iraq’s banking sector, highlighting key financial indicators, challenges, and strategic approaches for sustainable growth. Participants engaged in discussions on industry trends and best practices, contributing to the event’s academic and professional significance.
The workshop aimed to explore the influence of bank-specific determinants, macroeconomic factors, and governance factors on profitability in Iraq’s banking industry. Both bank-specific and macroeconomic determinants were considered in the analysis. In terms of governance, the average of corruption control and rule of law was used as key indicators.
The workshop also incorporated advanced statistical techniques to analyze data. Various pre-estimation tests were applied to check data properties. The Method of Moments Quantile Regression was used as the baseline model, while PCSE (Panel-Corrected Standard Errors) and FGLS (Feasible Generalized Least Squares) techniques were employed for robustness checks.
