Enlightening Religious Leaders on AI
Today, July 25th, 2023, marked a significant step forward in the intersection of faith and technology. The Science Zakat Center at Cihan University in Sulaimaniya, took the initiative to organize a unique training course. The training course was delivered by The Department of Translation, headed by Dr. Momen Yaseen M. Amin at Cihan Universty Sulaimaniya.
The audience comprised religious teachers, preachers, and other personnel from the Directorate of Endowments across Sulaimaniyah province.
A Welcome Address
The session opened with a cordial welcome address by Dr. Nuri Hama Saeed, the head of the Science Zakat Institute. In his speech, Dr. Saeed underscored the activities and the mission of both the Center and Cihan University Sulaimaniya. He emphasized their shared commitment to pushing the frontiers of knowledge, research, and technology.
Introduction to AI and its Potential
The attendees were then engaged by Dr. Momen Zellmi, Head of the Department of Translation at the University. Dr. Zellmi dove deep into the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically Chat GPT, and its role in public speaking and academic research. As part of his enlightening presentation, he explored the ways these advanced technologies can support Islamic preachers in their roles at Sulaimani mosques.
AI’s Practical Impact on Academia
Dr. Zellmi took the opportunity to expound upon the workings of AI and Chat GPT, highlighting its profound relevance to the daily lives of academics. He addressed questions around AI’s creation and its influence on teachers and leaders. This exploration provided much-needed insights into the transformative power of AI, illuminating its potential to revolutionize teaching methods and religious discourses.
Hands-On Experience with AI
A practical segment was then introduced, where the teachers and attendees were guided on how to use AI and Chat GPT in their respective roles. This hands-on approach ensured participants not only understood the technology’s theoretical underpinnings but also its practical applications in their religious and academic pursuits.
It’s essential to note that this training course is not a standalone event. Rather, it represents a series of training courses facilitated by Cihan University Sulaimaniya and its Science Zakat and Center for Artificial Intelligence. These entities work together to offer advanced training to employees, teachers, and staff from various government institutions across Sulaimaniya and Halabja provinces.
The convergence of religion, academia, and AI at this workshop has set a precedent for similar initiatives in the future. It shows that modern technology, such as AI, can coexist with and even enhance traditional religious practices and pedagogy. Through this pioneering approach, the Science Zakat Center and Cihan University Sulaimaniya are championing a new era of advanced education and progressive religious discourse.
