On 22th NOV 2022, the Students of Medical Microbiology Department at Cihan University celebrated World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) by presenting a seminar entitled “World Antimicrobial Awareness Week” to increase the scientific background and awareness of our students on the antibiotic resistance.
WAAW is a global campaign that is celebrated annually (18 to 24 November) to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices among the public who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.
The most important aim of WAAW is to increase the awareness level of society about the antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat.
