Today, a workshop titled “The Importance of Studying Literary Forms for English Department Students” was held at the seminar hall at 10:30 AM. The event was attended by many students and the academic staff. The session featured three distinguished keynote speakers:
- Dr. Akam Rashid, a drama expert from Charmoo University, who discussed the critical role of drama in understanding cultural, language and personal growth contexts.
- Ms. Tafan Kamal, from Cihan University of Sulaymaniyah, an expert in English literature and creative writing, highlighted how various literary forms including (Literature, Short story and novel) is introduced to English department students aiming to inspire students’ creativity and enhance their analytical thinking skills.
- Ms. Shaimaa Muhammed, from Cihan University of Sulaymaniyah, an expert in the English Literature, emphasized the importance of poetry in developing empathy and exploring complex human experiences through the beauty of language and expressing emotions.
The workshop underscored how literary forms enrich students’ critical thinking and creativity. For example, drama offers insights into cultural and historical contexts, while novels help students explore human experiences and emotions. Poetry, on the other hand, teaches precision in language and a deeper appreciation for artistic expression. Overall, the workshop demonstrated that mastering these forms equips students with tools that are not only vital for academic success but also for understanding human nature and society through literature.
