15th of January 2019,The accounting Department held a Workshop by Prof. Dr. Hatem Hatef ,Dr. Ahmed Yass ,Mr. Amanj Mohamed entitled (Using Statistical Packages in Social Sciences Researches).
R package: R packages are a collection of R functions, complied code and sample data. They are stored under a directory called “library” in the R environment. By default, R installs a set of packages during installation. More packages are added later, when they are needed for some specific purpose. When we start the R console, only the default packages are available by default. Other packages which are already installed have to be loaded explicitly to be used by the R program that is going to use them.
- Gretl Package: gretl is an open-source statistical package, mainly for econometrics. The name is an acronym for Gnu Regression, Econometrics and Time-series Library. It has a graphical user interface (GUI) and can be used together with TRAMO/SEATS, R, Stata, Python, Octave, Ox and Julia.
- views Package: Views (Econometric Views) is a statistical package for Windows, used mainly for time-series oriented econometric analysis. It is developed by Quantitative Micro Software (QMS), now a part of IHS. Version 1.0 was released in March 1994, and replaced MicroTSP.
- Stata package: Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package created in 1985 by StataCorp. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, biomedicine and epidemiology.

MS_EXCEL package: Excel provides an extensive range of Statistical Functions that perform calculations from basic mean, median & mode to the more complex statistical distribution and probability tests. The Excel Statistical functions are all grouped into categories, to help you to easily find the function you need. Selecting a function name will take you to a full description of the function, with examples of use and advice on common errors. Note that some of the Statistical functions were introduced in recent versions of Excel, and so are not available in earlier versions.

SPSS Package: SPSS is short for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, and it’s used by various kinds of researchers for complex statistical data analysis.
The SPSS software package was created for the management and statistical analysis of social science data. It was originally launched in 1968 by SPSS Inc., and was later acquired by IBM in 2009. SPSS is used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government entities, education researchers, marketing organizations, data miners, and many more for the processing and analyzing of survey data.
