Student Activity: Toward a More Sustainable Campus through Innovative Design and Practical Application
The Department of English at Cihan University-Sulaimani, headed by Aras Abdulkarim Amin, lecturer of English Literature, and, in collaboration with the Science Zakat instituion, headed by Nuri Hama Saeed Haider, started the English language strengthening course designed for students across various departments. This course brings together expert instructors from the Department of English, the Department of General Education, and the Department of Translation. Its primary objective is to enhance the linguistic skills of students studying different subjects at the university, aligning with our institution’s commitment to serving both our students and the wider community.
To ensure an accurate assessment of the students’ English proficiency levels, an examination was conducted on 10/7/2023. A total of 128 students from diverse departments participated in the assessment, which employed the Oxford placement test as a reliable measure. Based on the results, the course will cater to students across a range of proficiency levels, customizing the instruction to meet individual needs.
The course is scheduled to commence on 15/7/2023 and will span a duration of one month, concluding on 15/8/2023. During this intensive program, students will engage in comprehensive language instruction, focusing on all core aspects of English language learning, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Furthermore, the curriculum will incorporate subject-specific vocabulary and language skills tailored to the academic disciplines represented by the participating students.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be presented with certificates of participation, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to improving their English language abilities. These certificates will serve as valuable credentials, highlighting the students’ accomplishments and their commitment to personal and professional growth.
The English Language Strengthening Course is designed to facilitate the transformation and progress of students as they engage in a comprehensive journey of language development.
