Student Activity: Toward a More Sustainable Campus through Innovative Design and Practical Application
On 3/12/2023 The Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University Sulaimaniya held the eagerly awaited Spaghetti Bridge Competition for the students of the Architectural Department, which took place under the guidance of Mr. Diyari Burhan Hussein. This engaging event is designed to foster creativity, ingenuity, and practical engineering skills among our talented students. The jury for evaluation of the competition consisted of Dr. Brwa Hama Saeed from the University of Sulaimani, Mr. Diyari Burhan Hussein, and Mr. Sarko Hasan Sulaiman from Cihan University-Sulaymaniya.
Competition Objective: This workshop-turned-competition aimed to challenge participants to design and construct spaghetti bridges that not only showcase structural stability but also embody innovative engineering solutions. It was an opportunity for students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice, fostering hands-on learning and problem-solving abilities.
Competition Details: Participants utilized specified materials to construct bridges adhering to given guidelines and requirements, exploring the principles of structural integrity and design aesthetics. The bridges underwent rigorous testing to assess load-bearing capacity and overall performance. Beyond the thrill of competition, this event offered a platform for students to showcase their skills, learn from practical experiences, and interact with peers and faculty members in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Judging Criteria: Entries were evaluated based on various factors, including but not limited to structural stability, design creativity, adherence to specifications, and efficiency in material usage. At the end of the competition event, the first three winners were awarded an honor Certificate by the Presidency of Cihan University-Sulaymaniya.
