The establishment of the department of law at Cihan University – Sulaimaniya coincided with the establishment of the university itself in 2011. It includes a department of law only for the morning studies. The time required for study in college is five years, after which the graduates are awarded bachelor’s degrees in law.

The graduates will be taught and learn the necessary legal skills and acquire the knowledge needed; in order to provide society and various sectors with highly qualified graduates to work in the field of law, whether as lawyers, investigators, judges, prosecutors, or any other role in the justiciary and legal spheres. Our students will be provided with a useful opportunity to observe how the law works in practice, whilst being trained and supervised by practicing legal professionals.

The department of law looks forward to attaining a high and well-established position among the colleges and departments of law in the universities of the region and world community. The department strives to become one of the most important sources of science and legal knowledge, whether in the Kurdistan region or in Iraq. We endeavor to contribute to the process of preparing new generations capable of protecting justice and developing legal thought.

Based on the pioneering role to be played by the department of law, for which the department was established, the department of law is obliged to continually develop the teaching process, and create a characteristic environment of teaching, professional training, and legal research according to world-recognized academic curricula.
