On November 15th, 2024, Cihan University of Sulaimaniya’s Department of Media and Public Relations, participated in a workshop titled Universal Periodic Review Mechanism, organized by the PAO People Aid Organization.
The workshop aimed to increase awareness about the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism and its role in promoting human rights. Participants from various sectors, including civil society organizations, government officials, and academics, attended the event.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics, such as the UPR process, the involvement of civil society organizations, and the implementation of UPR recommendations. By participating in this workshop, Cihan University demonstrated its commitment to promoting human rights and fostering a deeper understanding of international human rights mechanisms.
The UPR is a unique UN mechanism that involves a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 UN Member States. Every 4.5 years, each country undergoes scrutiny by its peers, providing an opportunity to:
• Report on progress: Countries present their national human rights actions and challenges.
• Receive recommendations: Other UN Member States offer recommendations for improvement.
The UPR is designed to promote and protect human rights globally. By participating in this workshop, Cihan University demonstrated its commitment to human rights and its role in contributing to positive societal change.
