Student Activity: Toward a More Sustainable Campus through Innovative Design and Practical Application
On 25th September 2022, Department of Law, Cihan University of Sulaymaniyah jointly with Law and Life Organization for Legal Awareness organized a visit to Sulaimani Adult Correctional Facility. During the visit, the students met with several departments and units; These include the library, education, reception department, solitary confinement, prisoners’ hall and prisoner file management. Students inquired the nature of the services that theses departments offer to prisoners. The students also had the chance to query various legal aspects of the work and corrections the Adult Correctional Facility serve. Further, the students took notice of and closely monitored the hygiene and sanitation of the prison, as well as the code of conduct adhered to by the staff towards the prisoners.
Sulaimani Adult Correctional Facility staff explained the administrative and legal procedures on classification of prisoners in accordance to the severity of their crimes. Conditional release was another issue that students had questions about, especially the measures taken and the penalties that are not covered by conditional release. This visit proved to be very beneficial for the students academically, as they acquired the practical knowledge and aspects of the laws, they study in their law degree. More importantly, the students examined the rehabilitation process that restores prisoners to health or normal life through training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness.
