Student Activity: Toward a More Sustainable Campus through Innovative Design and Practical Application
National Workshop
On 21st NOV 2022, English Language Department at Cihan University Sulaimaniya arranged a national workshop on Cultures and Classroom Management. The national workshop was presented by Rezheen Nawzad Latif, and Imad Mohammed lecturers at English Language Department.
The presenters emphasized the importance of this workshop in benefiting both teachers and students getting familiar with notions of cultures, micro cultures and finally how to properly manage a classroom.
The presenters pointed out that in academic as well as non- academic environments we encounter multiple cultures and deal with, without even noticing them. And, the presenters established the fact that, it is important to recognize these cultures that we live in to make meaningful and successful communication resulting in favorable outcome. In Addition, it was found that there are cultures and micro cultures within them that one should consider when communicating with other people. Academic cultures require a high level of understanding of the differences that one faces as he or she moves from one to another. These cultures and micro cultures sometimes lead to what is called (cultural bump) which can cause serious misunderstandings and in some cases serious problems.
Classroom Management was another issue that particularly was of importance and tackled from various angles. And, the presenters asserted that, after dealing with the culture and cultural bumps, comes another important issue which is Classroom Management that constitutes a number of techniques and skills on how to deal and manage the learners in the learning process especially in EFL classes.
