The Department of Translation at Cihan University Sulaimaniya recently conducted a three-day training course from January 25 to 27, 2025, aimed at enhancing the speaking skills of first-stage students. The course, led by Assistant Lecturer Lavin Yousif and Teaching Assistant Alaa Nuri, focused on improving students’ fluency, pronunciation, and overall communication abilities.
Speaking skills are a fundamental component of language learning, and this initiative was designed to equip students with practical techniques to enhance their verbal communication. The sessions covered essential topics such as pronunciation correction, sentence structuring, confidence-building strategies, and overcoming common speaking challenges.
During the training, students actively participated in various exercises, including role-playing, group discussions, and impromptu speaking activities. These interactive methods encouraged students to practice speaking in real-life scenarios, boosting their confidence and competence in spoken language.
Assistant Lecturer Lavin Yousif emphasized the importance of continuous practice in mastering speaking skills. “Effective communication is key to success in both academic and professional settings. Our goal is to provide students with the necessary tools to express themselves clearly and confidently,” she stated.
Similarly, Alaa Nuri highlighted the significance of feedback in language learning. “Constructive feedback helps students identify their strengths and areas for improvement, allowing them to refine their speaking abilities over time,” she added.
By organizing such training courses, Cihan University Sulaimaniya reaffirms its commitment to enhancing language education and ensuring that students develop strong communication skills essential for their academic and professional journeys.
