Asst. Prof. Dr. Hastyar Hama Rashid Najmuldeen, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Omid Amiri, Head of the Research Center, have co-authored a paper in the esteemed journal of “Materials Letters”, under the title “Exploration of Memorial Effect in NiO/MnxOy Piezo Catalysts for Antibacterial Application”.
This study explores the “memorial effect” in NiO/MnxOy piezocatalysts\u2014 a phenomenon where catalytic activity persists against pathogens even after the removal of mechanical force. The findings reveal a promising pathway for sustainable, non-chemical water purification technologies targeting resistant pathogens.
The Key Highlights of the Study:
* The researchers developed NiO/MnxOy nanocomposites to evaluate their antibacterial efficacy against MDR strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.
* Significant reductions in bacterial colonies were observed, with the M6 piezocatalyst exhibiting exceptional efficacy against S. aureus and Escherichia coli.
* The study underscores the memorial effect’s potential in advancing water treatment systems that do not rely on chemical methods.
Importance for Future Research:
This pioneering work opens new frontiers in the field of nanotechnology and antibacterial applications. The memorial effect demonstrated by these piezocatalysts could revolutionize water purification systems, particularly in addressing global challenges like antimicrobial resistance and sustainable development.
Cihan University-Sulaimaniya is proud to support such innovative research that not only contributes to the academic community but also addresses critical global health and environmental issues.
