On September 25, 2024, the fourth-stage students of the Architectural Engineering Department at Cihan University Sulaymaniyah visited Shar Hospital as part of their academic curriculum. The scientific trip aimed to familiarize students with the functional layout and architectural design of a general hospital. This experience was integral to their “General Hospital Design” project, a key element of their Design Lectures course.
Under the supervision of the department’s teaching staff, the students explored various hospital departments, including emergency rooms, surgical suites, inpatient wards, and administrative areas. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the students to observe how architectural principles are applied to ensure both functionality and efficiency in healthcare settings.
This field trip enabled the students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, enhancing their understanding of hospital design complexities. by witnessing the practical aspects of building layout, spatial organization, and department integration, students gained insights into the challenges faced when designing healthcare facilities, which is critical for their ongoing academic development.
Such scientific trips are designed to offer students hands-on learning experiences that complement their classroom education, fostering a deeper comprehension of building functions and structural design. Through these visits, students acquire practical insights that are crucial for their future roles as architects.
