On January 22, 2025, third-stage students of the Architectural Engineering Department at Cihan University Sulaimaniya took part in an insightful scientific visit to the iconic Qaiwan Towers. The trip was organized as a practical component of the “Design” lecture, a core subject in their academic curriculum.
Supervised by the department’s teaching staff, the purpose of the visit was to familiarize students with the design and functionality of a mixed-use tower, a focus of their semester project proposal. The exploration of Qaiwan Towers allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the architectural strategies and engineering techniques employed in such complex structures, which combine residential, commercial, and recreational spaces within a single development.
During the visit, students analyzed key design aspects such as vertical space utilization, structural systems, circulation, and the integration of various functions within the tower. This hands-on experience provided a vital opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge to a real-world example, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application.
By studying the Qaiwan Towers, students were able to critically evaluate factors such as sustainability, aesthetic appeal, and functional efficiency, which will guide them in their upcoming project proposals for mixed-use tower designs. This experience highlights the department’s commitment to blending academic learning with experiential opportunities to prepare future architects for the challenges of modern architectural practice.
The Architectural Engineering Department at Cihan University Sulaimaniya continues to organize such educational trips, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their professional careers.
