Anesthesia is one of the relatively new fields of Medical Sciences. In recent years, great developments have taken place in this field. After the discovery of the anesthesia, great steps have been taken in the science and art of pain control. The task of anesthesia specialists is not limited to operating rooms, but they also provide valuable services in chronic and acute pain management, intensive care units, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and pain clinics.
Department of Anesthesia was established in 2021-2022 at Cihan University – Sulaimaniya. The department now offers a bachelor’s program in Anesthesia, with a four-year curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree. Currently, the Department of Anesthesia employs experienced national and international instructors to teach undergraduate students. In addition, with access to modern educational facilities, necessary medical equipment and cooperating with the hospitals, students of this field are taught in the best possible way, both theoretically and practically.
The Department of Anesthesia trains skilled technicians to support surgical and critical care teams through safe anesthesia administration and patient monitoring. The program combines clinical theory with supervised practical training in hospital settings. Graduates are prepared to work competently and confidently in operating rooms and intensive care units.
Graduates will be able to:
- Apply theoretical and clinical knowledge of anesthesia techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care.
- Operate and maintain anesthesia equipment and monitoring systems safely.
- Recognize and manage complications and emergencies during anesthesia administration.
- Apply pharmacological knowledge of anesthetic agents and drug interactions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology relevant to anesthesia.
- Apply evidence-based practice in anesthesia care.
- Communicate effectively with surgical teams and patients.
- Demonstrate professional ethics, patient safety, and infection control practices.
- Engage in continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
