Assist. Prof. Dr. Kosar Hikmat Hama Aziz from Cihan University Sulaimaniya recently authored a review article titled “Advancements in Application of Modified Biochar as a Green and Low-Cost Adsorbent for Wastewater Remediation from Organic Dyes.” Published by the Royal Society of Chemistry in Royal Society Open Science, this journal has an impact factor of 3.5 and is ranked in the first quartile (Q1) by Clarivate and Web of Science.
The review addresses the health risks of synthetic organic dyes, which resist biodegradation and can cause cancer and respiratory infections. It explores the properties of biochar, methods of production and modification, and factors affecting its efficiency in dye adsorption, such as feedstock, solution pH, and adsorption conditions. The article also discusses the challenges and opportunities in using biochar for wastewater treatment and suggests ways to improve its adsorption performance.
